VOLUNTEERING at Duke

Due to COVID-19, volunteer opportunities will look different this year. If you're interested in getting involved, email Duke SC to learn about current opportunities.

Volunteering at Duke

It takes a village to raise a child... and also to keep all those programs they love going!

If you can find some time to help out, please get in touch with us. Let us know if there are particular projects you'd like to assist with or if you'd just like to help out anywhere you're needed.

Volunteers need to have a recent police background check

Everyone who volunteers at the school must have a valid police background check on record at Duke. Please note that the background check process takes a while, so we ask that you plan ahead by getting your forms in early.

NEW VOLUNTEERS

The easiest procedure for new volunteers:

  1. Go to the bank and get a money order, bank draft or certified cheque for $20 made out to "Toronto Police Services." Money orders are usually the least expensive option, but check your bank's fees.
  2. Ask for a Volunteer Background Check form at Duke's main office.
  3. Fill out the form (it's short!) and hand it in with the payment from Step 1.
  4. When your background check arrives in the mail, make a copy if you would like one for your records and deliver the original to the main office. They will take it from you and send it to the TDSB.
  5. When your check comes back from the TDSB, you will be notified that you can come pick it up.

Please DO NOT use the Toronto Police Service's online background check service. Background checks needs to be initiated with the school, as above, that the report comes back to them.

CURRENT VOLUNTEERS

If you have volunteered before and have already had a background check, you only need to complete the Annual Declaration.

  1. Go to the main office, and let them know you need to complete an Volunteer Annual Declaration.
  2.  If they have time, they can call up your declaration on a computer for you to complete.
  3. If not, they will provide a form to complete and return.  (Either way it should only take a couple of minutes!)

If you have an event where you have volunteered but do not have your police check done, please contact the SC to let them know. We still need your help and we will do our best to help you help us.
